Feerique Scores Hard Fought Second Win
Monday, 23 November 2009

Feerique has chipped into the Tamar teams lead in the Tas Racing Challenge by winning the Class 1 Tasbreeders (1400m) at Launceston on Sunday.

The Gary White trained filly saluted at huge odds ($34.90SP) despite being fancied on Friday by White.

"Her first few runs have been full of merit and I expected her to improve again with the 1400m trip," said White when interviewed on Friday.

"I told Dean (Holland) in the mounting yard to not worry about her price, if she ran up to her work she would be hard to beat."

The win was full of merit with Feerique having to endure a three-wide run, albeit with cover, in the early stages.

"She didn't have things go her way early and I was fully expecting Parched to run over the top of her in the straight," said White.

"But she got to the outside and fought off a number of challenges so I was very impressed.".

Feerique scored by almost a length from race favourite Parched and although White would like to look for a similar race, there isn't a lot about.

"I'd like to run her again in a fortnights time, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of options on the calendar," he said.

"I think she will love the mile and we are still heading towards some of the three-year-old features."

Milochello Gears Up For Weight For Age Tilt
Friday, 20 November 2009

By Peter Staples

QUALITY sprinter-miler Milochello has earned the right to take on the best milers in the state following another impressive win on Sunday.

Milochello (Matsqui-Coco Slippers) was having his first start on the Devonport track but made light of the task as he careered away from his rivals in an open handicap over 1660 metres.

Despite racing out of his class the Jason Clifford-trained gelding toyed with his rivals and after the race jockey Brendon McCoull declared he was good enough to tackle weight-for-age class.

"When Brendon (McCoull) jumped off he said to get him ready for the weight-for-age Kevin Sharkie Stakes over 1600 metres next month," Clifford said.

Double For The Derwent
Monday, 16 November 2009

Sunday's Devonport meeting was arguably the most successful to date for the Derwent Racing Team with two runners saluting on the day.

The Gary White trained Late Inclusion won his first race in the 1175m Maiden, whilst Milochello continued his strong form scoring in the 1660m Open event.

Milochello is normally best suited on the wet surfaces showed that he is certainly no one trick pony, beating a strong field and throwing his hat into Devonport Cup calculations.

Late Inclusion on the otherhand finally rewarded the faith shown in him by White beating an average field, but showing a level of determination perhaps lacking in his previous runs.

"He was courageous today, the favourite had him beaten a long way out and to fight on and win was a good sign," said White.

"I think he will gain a lot of confidence from today's run and be competitive at Class 1 level."

The two wins go a little way to narrowing the gap between the Tamar and Derwent teams with the Tamar now only leading by the 20 points.
